Mary Jane

Sorrow wraps around us
like a fleece blanket
on a summer day ~
not wanted,
not needed,
out of season,

heavy.

It covers the promise
we know to be true,
that we haven't really lost

you.

We cast it off,
this heaviness,
choosing instead
to lay bare
the lightness,
the sweetness,
the gladness
of our memories

of you.

Only a moment
separates us,
a whisper of time.
Sorrow will give way,
yielding its temporary sway
to the joy of eternity
and reunion

with you.

Psalm 73: 25,26 ~ Whom have I in heaven but Thee? And besides Thee, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
